Eine persönliche Katharsis / A personal catharsis

This post is bilingual, please scroll down for the english version. (I am working on something more convenient)

Was siehst du?

Berlin aus dem Fenster am Abend / Berlin out of the window at dusk

________________________________________________________________

Recently I read about a small village in Ecuador called Vilcabamba. It is also called the "Valley of Longlivety" because people there usually get to the age of onehundret years some even reaching the 120 mark. From my sources I also learnt, that there is no certain evidence, why this longlivety occurs. Scientiests have tried to figure out and made various claims why this is happening and even though it is not sure what causes this or if the inhabitants state their true ages, the number of healthy people in real old age is still a factor no researcher can't deny.
The reporter whose story I read reported of a unbelivably strong calmness and serenity, a complete contentedness with life, even though those people where poor and didn't have any luxury like we are used to. Moreover they worked until very high ages, as long as they had the strength to do so. Still, the internal relaxed state those people were emitting has been reported as captivating.

I read this while I was sitting in a metro train in Berlin. I looked up, I watched the faces of the people around and tried to use my empathy to test the atmosphere around me. And of course I smiled at the people around, because I was feeling some kind of relief. Only one girl was smiling back, the rest was looking really grumpy, some very stressful talking or looking at their phones every single second they sat there. The exact opposite of Vilcabamba was around me.
And I looked at myself in a glass panel and thought, I might be one of those faces to a certain amount of the time. I have a lot more luxuries than those people in Ecuador and I am still not content or don't value life with a calmness I would appreciate. I had thought a lot about these things the last few weeks, because of my move to a place where I barely knew anyone I spend a lot of time alone in my apartment or nature. I called this my personal monastery because I am getting to know myself better with every week that passes. This is enlightening, the process makes me love myself more than ever.

Which after all does not come without a certain uneasiness. Having established a kind of life I like to live after being through years of depression and negative emotions is something I am a bit proud of and in the same moment there is the yet stressful thought, that there has to be more, that I have to achieve more dreams and higher goals.

Do you know this moment?

Even though I just moved and have an interesting new job, I already think of how I can get a profession where I can use some of my strengths even more than I do now, how can I connect with more and different kind of people, how can I help others even more, which has always been a prime motivator in my work. Should I work for myself again, as I already did once and failed financially and get another education and vocation on the side or even full time?
I don't feel a calmness like the inhabitants in Vilcabamba and yet it is all I want to get out of my catharsis. I am pushing myself to know what to do with time and how to get the most out of it and struggling with the process, even though I am determined to find my dream, I choose to several times a day and motivate myself every time I am down.

Do you know the moment when you're own thinking leads you deeper into the paradoxon of your own life? Yet, I reached a point where I want to spent more time with people and do more of the travelling I love. I am really looking for more time to talk to people, to help and inspire some, to get inspired by others and travel around the globe more than I even do now. Ironically I reached the point where my lifestyle does allow me to have enough resources for travelling like I do except for enough time...
I am chasing time like a dog chases his own tail, in circles, not having understood until now, that the basic principle to get more time is to be more calm, more serene and more content with what you have got. So now it is about choosing more calmness to figure out where to aim next and then use the contentedness and relaxed state as a slingshot, to shoot me into my dreams which I can achieve with my strengths I have and the power that comes from that state.

Do you invite calmness into your life?

If a stranger looked you in the eye, what would he see? What do you see?

How about some time in a personal monastery to find out more about yourself?

What is your biggest dream you have not achieved or you don't even know yet?

48 hours of lessons that twist your thinking

Last weekend, during a step out of my comfort zone, I learned several powerful lessons about life in just 48 hours, never before did I experience true wisdom in such a short amount of time.

We all have got a timeline and we don't know when time is over. Greg Hartle taught me this lesson I often had forgotten in life. He is dying because of a serious sickness and has less than a year to live. "What are you doing to make this world a place you want to live in?" he asked and "Do you life fully to die empty?" Those where quite uneasy questions as I knew, there is so much left to do, so much left to change and I am already on my second chance, a chance we rarely even get.

  • Would you be ready to go?
  • Have you lived up to the fullest?
  • How can you be of service to make this world a better place?

Since last friday those are questions I ask myself every morning and you should to. I talked to Greg the day after his speech and told him how thankful I was that he shared his time and made such a powerful statement. And of course I hope that he has more than the time predicted on earth to inspire and wake up as many human beings as possible.

Ben Austin taught me a lesson about authenticity, about the true power in oneself you can embrace and train. He finally made the puzzle pieces of male vs. female energy and the concept about being what you really are falling into place. How all energy is interleaved and how polarity works.
Self mastery as we create out life is the key, understanding the next step and service the final destination. Because the secret of living is giving.

Chris Guillebeau made me remember how great it is to start new things and to take challenges instead of just settling with what you have. Life is progress and you have to take action and be aware... What vision comes next?

The first conversation I actually had during this time was with Henrika and Ushmi and it was a very powerful one about being one true self, relationships, vulnerability and qualities like kindness, gratefulness and compassion. When you are with such energizing individuals, the world rolls in ecstasy at your feet and through their radiance you are able to see yourself in a different light. That is why I think it is important to share ones life with people who glow and make you shine even more through their light. Do you regularly reach out for such beautiful human beings?

A whole bunch of people from more than 10 different countries have made the discussions and conversations I experienced so deep and full of inspiration, having made a connection to a tribe that shapes the future so real. And I hope I have given and inspired others as well, as it is all about the balance of giving and taking.

And last but not least I have to thank Marthe for getting me into this whole tribe, I am delighted to call someone like her, who has the power of human connection and sensitivity deep inside, a friend. For these are qualities this world is lacking nowadays to be a better place to live in for us all.

I am grateful for every second I have spent throughout those days and every single lesson I have learned. Because 48 hours with the right people in the right place can make all the difference, can shift the perspective about challenge vs. procrastination, the lesser travelled path vs. the mainstream, hiding vs. authenticity and life vs. death.

Then, it just depends on how we master ourselves, how we take action, how we get stronger from our lessons and share our learnings with the world.

So with all clarity I ask you one fundamental question again: "What are you doing to make this world a place you want to live in?"

Wo will ich hin?

Being ALIVE in my everyday life

This post is part of the ALIVE in Berlin Blog Tour, which is spreading the power of ALIVENESS to the masses. Alive in Berlin is a global gathering devoted to personal transformation that takes place on the 30th and 31st of May 2014 in Europe’s most exciting city. The event will bring together world-class experts, visionaries and change makers from a variety of communities and disciplines. Together, we’ll explore the common threads that connect us and make us come alive. To learn more and join us, click here.

Being ALIVE in my everyday life

Being ALIVE has a very special meaning for me. I couldn’t name a certain point in life or an event where everything changed all of a sudden,  it was and is rather a gradual process combining awareness, mindfulness, curiosity and challenge. Being ALIVE is a continuous journey, with a fresh start each morning, like living a new life every day.

Being ALIVE means to me that I am into something fully at the moment I do it. It means I am there in the present, no matter what it is. To be in this kind of meditative state as I perform some profane task and kind of everyday activity, helps me being ALIVE. It just means to do everything with passion and enjoying it, whenever I am doing it, wherever I am doing it! There is beauty in (almost) everything!

Being ALIVE means to mindfully inspire people, by whatever I say or however I act. I always keep in mind that I can be a role model through every word I say and every action I take. Through this I can transform everything I do into a positive guiding flame, which keeps me and others alive as long as it burns.

Being ALIVE means moving into uncharted territories, it means I try something new every day, a new way to get to a place I go regularly, a new recipe, a new author or blog I haven’t read before etc. By this, I add some new excitement into my life. I even strive for something bigger at least once a year like visiting a new country or culture or try something like skydiving or going on a spiritual pilgrimage. By creating new experiences thinking out of the box happens naturally and I become more ALIVE than I ever could imagine. I just can’t stop envisioning all that‘s to explore out there!

Being ALIVE means to make the slightest difference out there I can imagine, but still make a difference. I strive for new insights, I am excited by a global game that is changing, I want to take the road less traveled. I tell myself each day: “Let’s don’t wait passively for things to change, just do”. In my opinion, we are caring too less for each other, so I show people that I care, by helping strangers and friends or supporting projects where people are involved who are not as fortunate as I am. The media tells me to be materialistic so I just go out into nature for a weekend without any status symbol of modern communication and I have ultimately banned TV from my apartment at all. Advertising tells me to buy more products to be happy but I actually buy less and get happier every day. A “social image” might tell me that I can only be a joyful person with a thousand “friends” but I connect to the few people who do make the difference and whom I can trust. Furthermore I even enjoy the bliss of occasional aloneness, instead of being surrounded by people all the time. By this, being ALIVE means to take the right decisions for myself, no matter what my surroundings do tell me.

Being ALIVE means to believe in my dreams, to believe that I can and will do everything possible to make them to come true, even if they change, even if there are difficulties, just stay true to what I am dreaming of, to what I want to become reality for myself. And by being ALIVE through my dreams, I have the willpower and energy to start and pursue the projects which are necessary to make those dreams real. Even if the road is rocky or winding, being ALIVE means to take it with dignity and all my strength and passion.

Being ALIVE means to be curios and exploring. Especially travelling always gives me that feeling. I have to trust strangers in places I have never been, I own nothing there but myself being surrounded by the sea and the sky or trees or concrete in the city. Through this I am myself in the most essential way possible and by taking the adventures I connect to myself even more and become more ALIVE than ever. But being ALIVE also means to come home from a voyage and experience all the comfort and familiarity of the surroundings I call home.

Maybe most of all, being ALIVE means to me to see the bigger picture. I usually experience this while watching the stars on a clear night. By seeing the universe from this perspective my problems, my challenges I have to take become indefinitely small. The same goes for me while watching citylights from a distance, I then realize how many others are out there, who I could possibly come across in life, who could have something inspiring or interesting to say. It reminds me of how many possibilities I have. So being ALIVE also means to be grateful for all that is out there, for all I can experience and for all the options life offers me.
In addition, being ALIVE means to me to accept life as a whole with all the ups and downs. When I win, beat a challenge, finish a project, have fun with people, push me over my boundaries it is easy to feel ALIVE. But also when I fail, I lose something or someone, I am lonely, I have to admit that I am not there achieving something I can feel ALIVE through the lesson this situation teaches me and how this is getting  me closer to what I want to achieve and who I really am. Basically, I can describe my attitude with the quote: “I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars.”
Being ALIVE is following that way and reaching for that stars all in one...
